I am guilty! Guilty of never having visited the Heritage Park Museum in Sunnyvale even though it is very near my hometown. But last weekend they were displaying vintage wedding dresses (from the western hemisphere) so my friend and I went to visit. It turns out the display had been up for the last three months and they were starting to put the dresses away but they kindly let us go upstairs and take a look before everything was boxed up.
The dresses ranged in years from the mid 1800s to the 1960s.
In the 1800s and turn of the 20th century, not everyone could afford to buy a new gown. Often the bride just wore her best dress regardless of whether it was white or not.
Here are some other dresses. I converted the photos to black and white, in keeping with the times.
I will definitely visit the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum again. Their next exhibit will be “War Time in Sunnyvale” and will feature photographs, military paraphernalia, maps and newspaper images from WWI and WWII. It begins Feb 23, 2020 and runs through the summer.
The museum is free and open every Tues/Thurs/Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm.

Love it. While I’m not a collector, I absolutely enjoy looking at vintage things. We’ll have to visit the museum someday.
