In 2019, my daughter and I visited the Chapman University in Southern California. Here is a photo-tour of the Chapman University and Dodge College of Film and Media Arts campus:
Our first impression of Chapman University and Dodge College was how restful it seemed. The campus is not too big, not too small, and located in a residential section of sunny Orange County in Southern California. The campus is 15 minutes from Disneyland and 30 – 40 minutes from the beach.
Chapman prides itself on its “personalized academic experience.” We noticed that ourselves. After our tour, my daughter and I passed an open office door with a teaching assistant sitting at his desk. We asked if we could ask him a quick question, and he happily spent 15 minutes giving my daughter application advice. Incidentally, unlike some large universities, all the classes at Chapman are taught by the professors themselves (vs. a teacher’s assistant).
The Admissions Office says that Chapman has evolved from a liberal arts college into a “midsized university distinguished for its extraordinary blend of liberal arts, science, and professional curriculum, including nationally recognized programs in health sciences, film and television production, business and economics, dance, music, theatre, writing, and teacher education.” (The Princeton Review: The Best 382 Colleges, 2018 Edition; Penguin Random House)
One of the dorms on campus –
We had a separate tour of the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. (Update November, 2022) Out of the top 50 film schools in the country, Wrap Magazine gave Dodge a number four ranking. We were impressed with the facilities and friendly staff for sure.
There is also a stunning performing arts theater – the Musco Center for the Arts – on the Chapman campus where students can watch world famous performers from music, dance, and theater, as well as productions/concerts by performing arts’ students.
Although Chapman has a relationship with two Christian churches, it is absolutely non-denominational and does not require students to take religious classes. The university has a good web page explaining the difference between a “Christian University” and a “church-related school.”
